CE and ecommerce giants want quick removal of dangerous products for sale online
The agreement provides that, in the event of notification by the European authorities, the four companies must act within two working days and report on the decisions taken. Among the measures is the withdrawal of dangerous products. In the event of a consumer complaint, e-commerce giants should ensure an appropriate response within five business days, dealing with the situation expeditiously. With more and more people shopping online and Internet sales accounting for 20% of total transactions in EU countries in 2016 (Eurostat), so too has the number of dangerous products notified under the Quick Alert System sold online increased. To this end, the four companies also undertake to consult the information on harvested / hazardous products available in the Rapid Alert System, as well as other sources, including law enforcement authorities, and to take the necessary measures with regard to concerned.

They should also provide single contact points for EU Member State authorities to send notifications in a way that facilitates the exchange of information, ensures that they do not re-sell already-removed items, and train salespeople on EU safety of products.
Inviting other companies to take the same initiative, Vĕra Jourovà, EU Commissioner for Justice, Consumers and Gender Equality, argued that consumers should enjoy exactly the same security when shopping online as when shopping in a store. "I welcome the establishment of the Promise of Product Safety," he said.
Every six months, the e-commerce companies and the European Commission will evaluate the progress made on the commitments made and publish a report.
