Google and LG collaborate on behalf of the quality of the future of virtual reality
Google and LG announced this week a new display that should raise quality standards in future virtual reality headsets. It is an 18-megapixel OLED screen with 1,443 ppi, an update rate of 120Hz and a field of view of 120 x 96. The development of this screen had been announced last March.Google notes that the maximum capabilities of human vision are limited in well-defined frameworks. Regarding the ppi, the company indicates that users' eyes can not see numbers above 2,183 ppi, or fields of view higher than 160 x 150, which means that despite the quality of this proposal, the technology still reserves room for improvements . Note that by comparison, HTC Vive offers a quality of 448 ppi, while Vive Pro reaches 615 ppi with a refresh rate of 90Hz. In other words, Google and LG are currently the authors of the highest resolution VR display on the market. One of the main considerations is the integration of this display with mobile processors, since these components should limit the refresh rate of the screen to 75Hz, which means that this solution will be best applied to computer headsets.Despite the official announcement, Google and LG still do not have a set release date. The device is still a prototype and will be improved before it reaches the Market.
