ELON MUSK WANTS MACHINES THINKING LIKE HUMANS
Unlike other Elon Musk companies, such as the Boring Company, Tesla or SpaceX, Neuralink does not populate the media circuits of the technology sector, so often or with so much emphasis. The company's operations, however, deserve the full attention of the public, for the work it develops in the segment of communication interfaces between brain and computer. Now, the startup will be involved in a research project for primate species, in partnership with the University of California (UC).Although it sounds like an expansion to your business, animal testing is an essential step in the process of creating a neural platform. The company had even attempted to complete this phase of the process earlier, with the construction of a laboratory in San Francisco, but abandoned the project last March. Now, with an agreement with UC, which will cost you about $ 796,000, Neuralink will have at your disposal one of the seven research centers dedicated to the health of primates species that exist in the USA."The research developed in this laboratory ... will provide us with the information we need before proceeding to clinical trials in humans, which will then lead to the creation of new drugs, therapies or surgical procedures that benefit the health and quality of the human life, "reads the contract.
Note that the core project of the company is the development of a communication interface between Men and machines that will operate exclusively based on the synaptic processes of human users. This means that, based on this idealized tool, people would be able to convey thoughts to the machines around them. In practice, this would allow, for example, people to initiate phone calls without physically touching their phone, or to write small notes without being even close to their computer. A more complex level of communication could even cause computers to revisit and store some of the memories we create.Part of the scientific community believes that, once paired with our laptops and smartphones, humans can reach a new level of cognitive sophistication. Neuralink is not the only company to work in the industry, but the latter investment may give it some advantage over competitors. Note that Facebook is also conducting investigations in this sector.
