Nvidia creates AI system that learns only by observing humans
Technological researchers have developed a system based on deep learning that can teach a robot to complete a task simply by observing the actions of a human being. The project is still in the early stages of development, but the company explains that the goal is to enable the next generation of robots to work closely with people and safely. To do this, these robots need to sense people, record their activities and learn how they can help them, explains Nvidia in a blog post.Using NVIDIA TITAN X GPUs, the researchers trained a sequence of neural networks to complete tasks associated with perceiving, creating, and running programs. As a result, the robot was able to learn a task from a single demonstration in the real world.
To see the explanation of the task, the robots have a camera that also allows them to deduce the positions and the relationship between the various objects presented. Then the AI makes a human-readable description of the steps required to complete the task. This step allows the user to quickly identify and correct any problems that the plan generated by the neural network presents.According to Nvidia, this is the first time that data has been combined with an image-centric approach and explains that it chose to process the information in this way to ensure that the networks do not depend only on the camera or the environment.
