MERCEDES-BENZ
If for BMW the laser light opened new possibilities in the field of road safety and illumination, it is worth asking what will be offered by the digital light that debuts in the recent update of the Mercedes-Maybach S, a technology that shows its capabilities in the Hall of Geneva .Mercedes-Benz introduces revolutionary 'Digital Light' technology, equipped with a high-quality beam of light with two million pixels - one million per headlamp - capable of delivering a high resolution never before applied in the automotive sector and only will be within reach of some very special and selected clients. The new front headlights are able to create optimal lighting conditions for every driving situation, offering even greater precision than the Multibeam LED headlamps that fit from the new A Class to the new Mercedes-Benz CLS and which are part of the systems package safety and driving assistance that Mercedes-Benz calls 'Intelligent Drive'.
With a complex operation, each of the headlights of the new Mercedes-Maybach S has more than one million micro-reflectors. Together with a high resolution stereo system and a powerful sensor network, road and automatically adjust the headlight setting in milliseconds so as not to overshadow traffic in the opposite direction and the vehicle in front of the road, including using the navigation data to face the next turn or a cross.
This lighting is associated with the 'Distronic Plus' cruise speed control by projecting a proximity mark on the road, warning the driver of certain dangers, both when leaving a fast road and when accessing it. Thus, the new headlights project a road maintenance symbol on the road in the form of guide lines.
Today, the system is still in testing and can design surface symbols for low-grip, road works, rear-end collision, blind spot and speed, but Mercedes-Benz engineers work to make the system capable of establishing contact and permanent communication with the environment.
