This may be the last year you can use WhatsApp without seeing ads. Mirror says that when Facebook acquired the messaging app in 2014 it was agreed that there would be no monetization in the next five years. Given that we are in 2018, the process of making WhatsApp profitable can begin as early as next year.
Facebook's desire to start showing ads in the messaging app was confirmed to Forbes by a WhatsApp representative. Ads will actually begin showing in 2019 and can be found in the 'Status' area.
The reaction to the news was not long in coming, with several WhatsApp users expressing their intention to delete the app if the ads started showing. For now, it will be a matter of waiting to see if the measure is or not to move forward.
