Researchers explode laboratory with record-breaking magnetic field
A team of researchers at the University of Tokyo was able to create the largest magnetic field ever created in a laboratory. In fact, the energy manifested by this magnetic field was so strong that it exploded the equipment created from scratch. The explosion of the equipment in reaction to the magnetic field was captured in video, which is available at the top. Although they were able to predict the explosion, researchers were still surprised by the strength of the magnetic field. According to the researcher, Shojiro Takeyama, the team expected the equipment to be able to handle 700T, but still a total of 1,200T.Despite the explosion, the team of researchers was keen to continue exploring potent magnetic fields."With magnetic fields above 1000T you start to open up interesting possibilities. You can observe the movement of electrons outside the material environments in which they are normally found. So we can study them in a whole new way and explore new types of electronic devices. This research may also be useful for those who are working to generate fusion power, "Takeyama told IEEE Spectrum.
