Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is coming to PS5 in December with PS VR2 support arriving in 2026

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is finally coming to the PlayStation 5 this December, with full PS VR2 support promised for 2026. The game brings its massive global map, hundreds of aircraft, and varied mission types to Sony’s console, complete with DualSense features.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 will arrive on PlayStation 5 on December 8, 2025, marking the first time the long-running franchise lands on Sony’s console. The announcement was made during Sony’s State of Play showcase and finally puts an end to months of speculation that the game would cross over from its Xbox exclusivity. PlayStation owners will also receive a free update in 2026 that brings full PS VR2 compatibility, giving players the option to step into the cockpit with a headset for a more immersive perspective.

This version of Flight Simulator delivers the same scope and ambition that PC and Xbox players saw last year. The entire planet is modeled, with more than 40,000 airports, 60,000 helipads, and live weather and air traffic. A mission-based career mode is included, covering firefighting, crop spraying, executive transport, and search and rescue. Jorg Neumann, head of Microsoft Flight Simulator at Xbox Game Studios, said in a PlayStation Blog post that “with up to 125 highly detailed aircraft, we have developed the largest and most diverse fleet ever assembled for a flight simulator.” The range covers ultralights, bush planes, helicopters, eVTOLs, balloons, business jets, commercial airliners, and even heavy military transports.

The PS5 port makes use of Sony’s hardware features to offer a slightly different experience from the Xbox version. The DualSense controller’s adaptive triggers respond to the forces of takeoffs, landings, and turbulence, while haptic feedback is tuned to replicate vibrations from the airframe and engines. The controller speaker plays air traffic control communications, and motion-based inputs allow you to steer more directly if you do not own a dedicated flight stick. Preorders for the Deluxe, Premium Deluxe, or Aviator editions will provide early access beginning December 3, a few days before the standard launch.

I think the most intriguing part of the announcement is the PS VR2 support, which is planned for a free update sometime in 2026. The developers have confirmed that the entire game will be playable in VR with full Sense controller integration, opening up the possibility of interacting with cockpit instruments and switches in a more natural way. That said, I do not know how well the PS5 will actually handle a simulator of this scale in VR. Even the PC and Xbox versions struggled at launch with stability and performance, and VR demands smooth frame rates to avoid motion sickness.
