The Pixel 9a, recently introduced by Google, arrived with a renewed design that has caused a stir, mainly due to its protrusion-free rear — an unusual approach in the world of current smartphones.

However, behind the sober and minimalist appearance, there is a less friendly reality for those who value ease of repair. YouTube channel PBKreviews took the equipment apart and brought to light some important details.

The back panel of the Pixel 9a is made of plastic, which in principle reduces the risk of breakage and avoids frequent replacements. The opening is done with heat and suction, using an adhesive system similar to that of previous models of the brand. However, complexity begins to arise as soon as the battery is removed.

Unlike newer competing models that opt ​​for traditional pull tabs, Google has used an adhesive strip that requires a back-and-forth motion to cut through the glue. The problem? This tape tends to break easily, leaving users with no option but to resort to solvents like isopropyl alcohol — which is not only more time-consuming but also dangerous. There is a risk of damaging the battery structure during the extraction process, which can even cause fires in extreme cases.

It's not all bad news. Screen replacement, one of the most common repairs, is surprisingly affordable on this model. There is no need to open the back of the device: simply remove the front panel carefully and the display cable can be easily disconnected and connected back to the main board. This detail is especially relevant for quick and less invasive care.

Another positive point is the heat dissipation system, which appears to be well designed. This is important, especially since the Pixel 9a comes equipped with the Tensor G4 processor, developed by Google itself. With this thermal solution, performance in everyday tasks is expected to be fluid, without excessive overheating.

The Pixel 9a presents itself as an interesting proposition for those who appreciate a clean design and solid functionality. However, if you're the type of person who likes to extend the life of your equipment through simple, home-made repairs, you might want to consider it.

Google's choice of a battery that is difficult to remove may alienate the more practical, even with clear advantages in other areas, such as the ease of replacing the screen and good thermal performance.
