iOS 18.5 update has subtle but practical improvements to the iPhone's Mail app
Apple is preparing to launch the iOS 18.5 update, and although it is not the most exciting when it comes to new features, it brings with it practical improvements to the native Mail application that may please those who use this tool on a daily basis.
One of the most immediate changes in iOS 18.5 is the new way to manage contact photos in the Mail app. Until now, if you wanted to remove the images associated with your contacts in incoming emails, you had to navigate to your iPhone's Settings. With the new version of the operating system, this option is now accessible directly within the Mail application, greatly simplifying the process.
This change may seem small, but it represents a clear improvement in the user experience, especially for those who prefer a cleaner, more content-focused email presentation.
Another interesting new feature is the availability of the “All Mail” view, that is, a category that brings together all received emails, regardless of the classification assigned by the app. This feature already existed in previous versions like iOS 18.4, but it was completely hidden – to access it, you had to swipe left between the different sections of the inbox.
Now, with iOS 18.5, this tab becomes visible by default, positioned next to the “Promotions” section. This means you can quickly see all your messages in one place, without having to switch between categories like “Primary”, “Transactions”, “Updates” or “Promotions”.
For many, this small change can have a big impact on the way they manage email, making the process smoother and more efficient.
Despite these subtle improvements, there's one detail that continues to give Apple's Mail app a certain charm: the distinctive "Swoosh" sound that plays whenever you send an email. If you uninstalled the Mail app from your iPhone, you can reinstall it from the App Store and make sure this sound is enabled in Settings under Sounds & Haptics.
These types of details may seem trivial, but for many, they are what make using the iPhone more enjoyable and personalized.
Update still in beta phase...iOS 18.5 is currently only available in beta for developers and public testers. There is no official release date for the final version yet, but Apple is expected to release the update soon for all compatible devices.
If you usually use the Mail app on your iPhone, these changes, although modest, make the app more functional and adapted to the preferences of each user. It's worth staying tuned for updates and testing these improvements for yourself when the update is made available.
