HMD's MWC 2025 lineup leaks: New Fusion smart outfits and earbuds
HMD is expected to attend this year's edition of MWC Barcelona. While the manufacturer hasn't officially revealed its plans for the multi-day show, a leak has revealed two new products that will reportedly be unveiled by the Finnish company.
Mobile World Congress (MWC) Barcelona is a few weeks away, and many manufacturers will be in attendance to announce and showcase new and existing products. It appears HMD will also be in attendance as a leak has revealed details of its MWC announcement.
Posted on X by HMD_Meme's (@smashx_60), HMD has at least two announcements set for MWC. The first is a relaunch of the HMD Fusion, the budget smartphone with a modular design that was released in September 2024. According to the source, HMD will also announce new smart outfits a.k.a. modular attachments for the smartphone.
When the HMD Fusion (curr. available on Amazon for $199.99) launched last year, only a couple of smart outfits are currently available to buy despite announcing several. HMD also released a Fusion Development Toolkit for people to create their own smart outfits, but we are yet to see any third-party accessory get announced for the smartphone.
In terms of design, the earphones don't stray too far from the norm and feature a flat stem design with a connection module that houses the driver. However, the interesting thing about the accessory is its case.
Clearly, the case features a design inspired by the HMD Skyline cell phone, which visually references the classic Nokia Lumia devices. Even the blue, black and pink color options are similar to the aforementioned device.
The most intriguing feature of the charging case is the inclusion of magnets that should allow it to be attached to the HMD Skyline cell phone or any other model that has wireless charging, especially for using reverse charging.
Unfortunately, the FCC certification does not reveal the exact battery capacity of the charging case. However, each of the earphones will come with 35 mAh and should provide up to 5 hours of music playback on a single charge.
So far, it is unclear when HMD will officially launch the earphones on the market. They will probably be made official at MWC 2025, where HMD has confirmed its presence and will announce new features.
The other announcement is a pair of earbuds which the leaker calls the HMD AMPED BUDS. The earbuds come in an unusually designed case that is flat as seen in an attached image that seems to be from the product manual.
The earbuds look like many other pairs of closed-fit earbuds with its silicone ear tips and protruding stems. However, each one fits into the flat side of the carrying case and has to be pushed down to release them. The case has a USB-C port on one side and a function button on the other.
It is not certain if the design of the carrying case is the only thing that makes the HMD Amped Buds special, but there's a possibility that the pair of earbuds have an interesting feature we don't know about yet.
MWC Barcelona is scheduled to begin on the 3rd of March and run through 6th of March. However, some manufacturers are known to announce their new products before the show officially commences.
