AMD To Finally Reveal Radeon RX 9070 XT Graphics Card On Feb. 28
AMD is finally going to reveal details of it’s next generation graphics card, the Radeon RX 9070 XT, on Feb. 28. The new card looks set to compete with the likes of Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 4080 Super as well as older models, but will fall short of challenging for the top spot.
What time is the reveal and when can you buy the Radeon RX 9070 XT?...AMD’s VP & GM of Ryzen CPU and Radeon Graphics David McAfee’s post on X today that the company will reveal details about the card on Feb. 28 at 8am EST and that it will be available in early March. That would suggest that in less than a month’ts time the Radeon RX 9070 XT will be available to buy. If you want to watch the reveal in two week’s time you can do so on it’s YouTube channel.
What do we know so far about the Radeon RX 9070 XT?...AMD has kept many details of the Radeon RX 9070 XT under wraps and despite expectations of a CES 2025 reveal in Las Vegas last month, PC enthusiasts had to make do with limited details in the original announcement on Jan. 7 about the RX 9070 XT and 9070, while Nvidia announced its GeForce RTX 50-series cards.
The RX 9070 XT is expected to have 16GB of video memory, although there’s no confirmation of the amount or the type of memory being used. Rumors were flying this week about a possible 32GB version of the card but these were quashed this week by AMD itself.
AMD has also confirmed that it does not intend to compete with Nvidia’s top-end graphics cards, instead focussing on increasing market share in the mid-range and below. The naming scheme 9070, it claims, is aimed at lining up with the competition in terms of performance. In other words Nvidia’s RTX 5070 and RTX 4070 series models.
AMD has named its new graphics cards the RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 to allow for clearer comparison with the competition, specifically the Nvidia RTX 4070 and 5070 models. AMD
Early indications are that the new AMD card will likely be vying with Nvidia’s soon to be released RTX 5070 Ti, potentially beating it by up to 15%. Various images showing the new cards have revealed the use of standard 8-pin power connectors too and not the 12VPWR connector that’s used on Nvidia’s current models.
What information do PC enthusiasts want to know about the Radeon RX 9070 XT?...By far the most anticipated information is price. With Nvidia’s RTX 50-series suffering from higher than expected pricing due to shortages with the RTX 5080 and RTX 5090, all eyes are on AMD to offer something that’s more affordable, and potentially offering better bang for you buck than Nvidia. It’s likely, though, that in most situations, it won’t be faster than the existing AMD Radoen RX 7900 XTX, which could remain AMD’s flagship graphics card despite the Radeon RX 9070 XT using the newer RDNA 4 GPU architecture.
