HMD Skyline lauded as Most Repairable Smartphone of 2024
HMD's Skyline has ended its 2024 on a high note, having been awarded the title of Most Repairable Smartphone of the year on the influential tear-down vlog JerryRigEverything. The Asus ROG Phone 8 and Huawei Mate XT have also made appearances at this online award show, albeit for less upliftingly sustainable reasons.
The HMD Skyline had a rough time of it on its last YouTube end-of-year smartphone award show; however, its reception on the latest JerryRigEverything Smartphone Durability Awards video might make up for that.
Its host Zach Nelson also nominated the Pixel 9 series as the next best thing for those unable to get their hands on the "Most Repairable Smartphone of 2024" (although it is available on Amazon for 19% off its normal $499.99 price today (January 1, 2025)) thanks to the availability of spare parts for the new Google flagships through a partnership with iFixit.
However, a user would require a lot more time, effort and access to a heat-gun to get into a Pixel 9-series device, whereas a Skyline owner needs not much more than a single screwdriver to do the same - and keep their warranty intact in the process.
The ROG Phone 8, a device that crumbled like a biscuit during its JerryRigEverything torture-test, gained the less desirable title of Least Durable Smartphone of 2024.
The RedMagic 10 Pro was also named the Most Innovative Smartphone of 2024 thanks to its futuristic, RGB-cooled build and punch hole-free display during the video.
The Huawei Mate XT might be the most cutting-edge device of 2024 with its heretofore unique tri-folding build - however, it was also found to be the Least Durable Smartphone of the year for much the same reasons.
The main prize of 2024's Most Durable Smartphone went to the Ulefone Armor 24, a veritable brick of a handset thanks to its extra-large 22,000mAh battery and rugged design.
