CES 2025
The Japanese startup Yukai Engineering has presented a portable robot that cools hot food and drinks for you. The news was announced during CES 2025, considered the largest technology fair in the world, which takes place in Las Vegas (USA).
Called Nékojita FuFu, the robot was developed to help people with high sensitivity to heat, according to the company. It is shaped like a cat and, because it is portable, it can be used both at home and outside, such as in restaurants.
The device uses an internal fan to generate cold air and has an algorithm that controls the rhythm and intensity of the blowing, "simulating human behavior while effectively reducing the temperature of food".
"The robot does not just help you enjoy a hot coffee. It can make it easier for the elderly to consume hot soup and reduce the workload of parents by helping children eat with less assistance", said Yukai Engineering in a statement. "Unlike traditional mugs that reduce heat, the Nékojita FuFu is a stand-alone device that can be attached to any straight-edged utensil," he added.
Yukai's own tests show that the device can reduce the temperature of hot water from 88°C to 71°C in as little as 5 minutes.
The idea for the mini-robot came to mind during a Yukai Engineering event, when a team leader mentioned how difficult it was to blow on his baby's hot food. He said the practice often left him breathless and dizzy.
The company says it plans to launch the Nékojita FuFu in Japan sometime this year for ¥3,800.
