MUDITA

Mudita Kompakt, the minimalist phone with 32 GB of storage and a 6-day battery life

How much time do you spend on your phone each day? A recent survey showed that people look at their screens 352 times a day — once every two minutes from the moment we wake up.

Aiming to reduce this time, Polish gadget brand Mudita has announced a project to create a minimalist phone. The device comes with a custom operating system, a monochrome screen and a limited collection of apps.

The Kompakt has 32 GB of storage and a 3,300 mAh battery, which the company says is enough for 6 days of standby time. There is also a headphone jack, fingerprint reader, basic 8MP camera and support for wireless charging.

If you want to go completely offline, you can activate the mode that interrupts the hardware to disable cellular networks, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, microphones and the camera. The E Ink display creates a distraction-free, paper-like interface that is easy on the eyes.

The operating system based on the Android Open Source Project does not allow the use of Google services or the collection of user data, excluding the display of ads on the device.

The device comes with the following features: Phone and SMS; Offline maps; Weather; E-reader; Notes; Voice recorder; Calculator; Camera (only for photos, no video recording); Meditation timer; Music player; and Chess.

How to buy the Kompakt?...The project to fund the device was recently launched on Kickstarter and has already surpassed its fundraising goal. The devices are only being shipped to some countries in Europe, the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Mudita is working on producing models in Charcoal Black, Pebble Gray or Natural White. The price is US$ 324, and the Kompakt is expected to be launched globally in April 2025, priced at US$ 473.
