In the new One UI 7 interface, apps and widgets run very smoothly

Opening, closing and switching between apps and widgets could be a very fluid experience (à la iPhone) in One UI 7, Samsung's next smartphone interface. At least, that's what a video recently published by leaker Ice Universe on X (formerly Twitter) suggests.

The user deleted the video shortly after posting it. But another user on the social network saved the images and published them again on Tuesday night (almost dawn) (29). Watch below:

In the video, One UI 7 appears to react almost instantly to touches and gestures when switching between apps. This could excite smartphone enthusiasts who value the fluidity of the experience when using their devices.

However, it is necessary to wait for the public beta version and the stable version to see if this fluidity applies to the entire One UI 7, pondered the website Android Authority.

In addition to the smooth animations and transitions, other improvements are expected in Samsung's One UI 7. The interface, based on Android 15, should bring new icons, the ability to choose between a split or unified drop-down menu, and a new camera app interface (more on that at the end of this note).

Other notable additions that have been rumored include natural language search for photos and a version of Apple's Dynamic Island (that little black space in the front camera area that appears to expand and shrink), the site pointed out.

One UI 7: video shows a new feature that promises to please those who take a lot of photos...The camera app has been redesigned in Samsung's One UI 7, according to a video published by SamMobile. In the video, the interface runs on a Galaxy S24 Ultra.

The settings menu appears at the bottom of the screen, just above the shutter button (the one you tap to take the photo). This should make it easier to use the camera while holding the phone with one hand, for example.

Operating system, iOS 18.2 will have a major update

Apple confirmed on Monday (28) that the next major update to its operating system, iOS 18.2, will be released in December. The update will bring a series of new features based on artificial intelligence, including the integration of ChatGPT with Siri.

The announcement comes shortly after the release of iOS 18.1, which already introduced Apple's first AI tools, such as Writing Tools and Clean Up. The new update promises to significantly expand the devices' artificial intelligence capabilities. The public's main expectation for the end of the year is whether Siri will in fact have a major improvement with ChatGPT, becoming more useful and intelligent. Among the main new features of iOS 18.2 are:

Creation of personalized images from textual descriptions

Creation of custom emojis using text descriptions

Integration of ChatGPT in Siri: virtual assistant gains advanced conversational features

New features for Writing Tools, including “Compose” and “Describe your change”

‘Visual intelligence’ exclusive to iPhone 16 users

‘Image Wand’ tool to transform sketches into complete images in the Notes app

The company also confirmed that it will expand the availability of Artificial Intelligence features to more regions with iOS 18.2. “New Apple Intelligence features will be available in December, with additional capabilities being implemented in the coming months,” the company said in a statement.

For 2025, Apple is already planning more significant updates, which should arrive with iOS 18.3 and 18.4. Among the new features planned are Priority Notifications and an even more advanced version of Siri, with personal contextualization and actions within apps.

Testing Siri with ChatGPT on iOS 18.2...Reporter Allison Johnson from The Verge tested this smarter Siri and shares her first impressions. According to her, the new Siri still handles basic questions on its own and continues to only search for something on Google when that is the best way to get the answer. Regarding the integration with ChatGPT, the assistant asks for confirmation every time it wants to pass a request to OpenAI's AI.

In theory, this is good. But it gets annoying after a while, according to Allison – who disabled the need for confirmation after an afternoon using the new Siri. In practice, more complex questions go to ChatGPT. “Which means Siri can handle a lot more things than I used to ask,” writes Allison. “Ask ‘What are some cocktails I can make with whiskey and lime juice?’ and you get a short list of options with descriptions. The old Siri would basically just show you a snippet of a Google search.”

Siri’s Visual Intelligence...As for the so-called “Visual Intelligence,” it goes like this:

-It’s accessed when you press that new camera control button;

-After taking a photo, you can have ChatGPT analyze it or use Google’s image search to find similar results on the web.

“It’s a glorious version of Google Lens ported to iOS, and it’s about time iPhones had something like this built in. Allison described Visual Intelligence as “pretty good.” “It came up with a decent list of cocktails to make based on a photo of my home bar and helped me start a home repair with a picture of the problem.”...said the reporter

AI ‘Pitfalls’...On the other hand, Allison points out that “all the familiar pitfalls of AI chatbots are present, which Apple warns you about in every interaction you have with ChatGPT.” Example: “I asked him to explain the joke in a Garfield comic strip, and he completely made up details that weren’t there (although, to be fair, the joke he created was funnier than the source material). I asked him about the books on my shelf, and he “hallucinated” some titles that definitely aren’t there.”

Siri, ChatGPT, and Privacy... Apple has implemented what Allison called “good privacy protections” around the use of ChatGPT through Siri. OpenAI is “obliged to process your request solely for the purpose of fulfilling it and does not store your request or any responses you provide,” Apple says. And the information will not be used to train AI models. Importantly, if you sign in to your OpenAI account, your requests are saved in your ChatGPT history, and all of OpenAI’s terms apply. But you do not need an OpenAI account to use ChatGPT via Siri.
