ChatGPT is banned by the Chinese dictatorship, but users can access it

According to company guidelines, users who attempt to access OpenAI products in unsupported countries may be blocked or suspended.

Despite the rule, this will be the first time that the company has actually taken any action on the situation.

It's unclear what prompted OpenAI's change in stance. Last month, the company revealed that it had stopped covert influence operations, including one originating from China, that used its AI models to spread disinformation across the internet.

According to analysts, one of the possibilities is that the movement by the creator of ChatGPT is a response to the intense pressure it has received from the United States government. The White House has taken a series of actions to limit China's access to cutting-edge technologies developed in the US.

In this scenario, the possibility of accessing ChatGPT in Chinese territory is considered a risk to the national security of Americans.
