APPLE

Why is a foldable iPhone not yet a reality for the brand?

If you have an iPhone, or like to keep up with technological advances in smartphones, you've certainly wondered why Apple hasn't launched a foldable iPhone yet. Well, the answer is not simple and straightforward, but rather a set of factors that the company considers before taking a step into this market.

Some rumors have already been circulated and predictions have been made, speculating that perhaps in 2025 a new cell phone from the company could appear as a response to the Galaxy Z Flip. The fact is that Apple is in no hurry and is waiting cautiously, observing what its competitors are reaping from success and failure with this type of equipment.

Although speculation has created an expectation among Apple cell phone aficionados for the possible arrival of a foldable Apple smartphone, there is no indication that this will occur. At least this is the reading we make of the signals the company has given so far. The fact is that Apple is in no rush, according to industry experts, and there are still commercial issues to be resolved.

The first reason why we can conclude Apple's lack of motivation in relation to a foldable smartphone is related to the cost of producing foldable panels. We all know that the iPhone is not cheap and increasing the production cost due to these technologies in foldable screens would significantly reduce the profit margin that is currently comfortable, being above 50%, according to current estimates.

The second reason is that entering this market can mean a risk, so the apple giant prefers to observe how its competitors Samsung, Google and OnePlus are doing, where they are getting it right and where they are getting it wrong.

Current information is that Samsung will likely announce its newest Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Z Fold models by the first half of July, still in 2024. The Google Pixel Fold 2 and Motorola Razr 50 Ultra foldables should also arrive to the market.

Another reason that could be delaying Apple's foldable is that it could have a self-repair feature, that is, it could correct certain problems on its own, an indication would be the acquisition of more than 50 patents for this technology, recently acquired by the company.

In any case, Apple may enter the foldable cell phone market in the future, but it will still take some time and expectations for 2025 are unlikely to materialize. At least that's what it seems.
