Samsung India announces free screen replacement program for users affected by recent display issues

Users who had a green line show up on their display recently are eligible for a free screen replacement. Samsung India says users have until April 30 to avail the offer, which will also include a battery replacement

Samsung, and many other OEMs, are no strangers to the dreaded "green line" issue that afflicts AMOLED displays. Recently, many Samsung Galaxy devices were afflicted by the issue, supposedly triggered by a recent One UI update. Samsung India is now offering a free, one-time screen replacement for said users.

X user @tarunvats33 has learned from Samsung's customer support team that devices purchased in the last three years are available. The list includes the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, Galaxy S20 Ultra, Galaxy Note 20, Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, Galaxy S21 Ultra and Galaxy S22 Ultra. But, a Galaxy S20/Galaxy Note 20 purchased in 2020 won't be eligible for the program.

Interestingly, the Galaxy S21 FE and Galaxy S23 FE are not on the list despite being afflicted. Even mid-range Galaxy A and M series smartphones are nowhere to be found. Samsung may focus on these phones once the flagship Galaxy S phones have been fixed.

However, you only have until April 30 to get your free screen replacement. You need to book an appointment with your local service centre via Samsung's website. An eight-day window might not be long enough as there's no telling how many users have been affected and service centres could easily get overwhelmed with requests.

On the plus side, Samsung will also replace your battery along with the display assembly for no additional cost. This should let users get a few more years out of their smartphones, which is a nice cherry on top.
