Apple may announce Macs with M4 processors in 2024, according to the Bloomberg agency. And the new generation of chips – expected to reach the brand's notebooks and desktops – could be a game changer. That's because Apple appears to be putting more emphasis on artificial intelligence (AI) this time around.
Apple may reveal a new line of Macs with M4 processors in 2024, as published by Bloomberg. The integration of advanced AI capabilities into the new M4 chips promises to mark a significant evolution – and align Macs with current technology trends;
Apple is expected to introduce at least three main variations of the M4 processor, covering a wide range of products, from iMacs and MacBooks Pro in different sizes to Mac minis, all of which are expected to receive updates by early 2025;
In addition, Apple plans to equip several MacBook Air and Mac Studio models with the new M4 chip, possibly by June 2024. There is also the promise of the arrival of a more robust Mac Pro later in the same year.
By integrating the power of AI into M4 Macs, Apple aims to catch up, at least in terms of public perception, with giants like Microsoft and Google (investors will thank you). The agency suggests the company will highlight how AI processing capabilities will integrate with hardware and the latest version of macOS, which will be showcased at WWDC 2024 in June.
As published by the agency, there will be at least three main versions of the M4. And Apple is expected to update every Mac model with one of these processors.
Regarding “professional” desktop computers and notebooks, Bloomberg says Apple will launch iMacs, an entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro, more powerful 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros, and Mac minis with M4 chips by early 2025 .
Regarding ultraportable notebooks and other powerful Macs, the agency points out that versions of the 13- and 15-inch MacBook Air with M4 chips could arrive by June 2024, with a Mac Studio M4 to follow around mid-2025 and a Mac Pro for come later in the same year. However, the publication notes that plans could change.
Apple hasn't updated the Mac Mini since January 2023. The Mac Studio and Mac Pro received M2 upgrades in mid-2023. M3-powered iMacs and MacBook Pros arrived in October. The MacBook Air received an upgrade to M3 in March.
