Google patents a new system to avoid typing errors

Google recently patented a new system to improve the accuracy of virtual keyboards on smartphones and avoid typing errors.

Although smartphone screens have become bigger and bigger over the years, the space available for the keyboard is quite narrow and it is quite common, especially when we are in a hurry, to touch the wrong letter.

To overcome this problem, Google is developing a system that, through spatial and linguistic models, will be able to predict which keys we are likely to touch, eliminating typing errors.

In particular, the spatial model will analyze a heat map created by recording previous user inputs to predict which keys we will interact with next.

In the language model, instead, it studies the sequence of tactile inputs and performs a comparison between the current position and one or more expected subsequent keystrokes, taking into account the linguistic context and the users' writing habits.

The Google-made template is also able to optimize the keyboard's appearance to minimize your typing errors, especially acting in the spacebar position, putting extra space around it or moving it slightly away from the other keys.

Finally, the new patented solution will be continuously trained and updated taking into account usage habits, constantly improving its forecasting capacity.
