SONY

Xperia 1 Mark 5 – has new camera sensor

The Sony Xperia 1 V promises the latest and fastest system chip, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, a new camera sensor that, in addition to having a larger sensor surface than in the predecessor, also with a new structure should minimize the amount of noise and take in more light when taking pictures in the dark.

The purely hardware improvements are complemented by an increased focus on software-based improvement of the images, such as the camera taking several images which are then combined into one. Yes, Sony goes so far as to claim that images in the dark should be comparable to those you can take with their own full-frame sensor digital cameras.

The phone should therefore provide major improvements in terms of dynamic range and the amount of noise compared to before. Its cameras should also offer a range of creative modes where you can choose for yourself whether you want, for example, more saturated colors, a calmer feeling, a more muted look or one of several other modes.

Sony is a camera sensor supplier to most of the major mobile phone manufacturers, as well as Sony’s competitors, but Sony itself chooses a different path. Xperia is clearly aimed at influencers and other forms of more or less professional creators and this is noticeable, among other things, through the support for a new live chat function, the possibility to mount the phone in a special stand and special mode to focus on the product and not on you as a person when you record a product review. To take pictures and record movies, the Xperia 1 Mark 5 has the camera apps Photo Pro, Cinema Pro and Video Pro, but now they have an updated interface.

In this phone, Sony also opts out of features that the competitors fought over, such as a one-inch sensor and 8K video recording. Even though Sony themselves point out that they use a new sensor, we don’t get to know which sensor it is either.

Since previous models, a lot is the same also in Xperia 1 Mark 5. The screen is a long narrow 4K screen as before in 21:9 format and where full 4K resolution is used when you consume content that benefits from it, for example a 4K movie, but regular menus on the phone instead are displayed in full HD to save on performance and battery life.

Xperia 1 Mark 5 is released for pre-order on June 12 at a price of SEK 14,990 and those who pre-order get Sony’s WH-1000XM5 headphones with the purchase.
