SONY

DualSense new color

A small revolution? Sony is working on a unique controller for the PlayStation

Sony offers various accessories for its PlayStation consoles, from headphones to virtual reality headsets to controllers. It has two controllers available for PS5, namely DualSense and DualSense Edge, and it is possible that more will be added to them. Sony has now filed a patent for a truly unique and original controller.

Sony is not afraid of innovation...In the past, the Japanese manufacturer has shown that in the area of controllers, he does not stick to only familiar elements and that he is no stranger to various experiments. It offers, for example, adaptive triggers or a controller with replaceable lever ends and other customization options.

Sony in short, they are not afraid of it, and the latest patent proves it.

The latter shows a traditionally shaped controller, i.e. in the style of the current DualSense model, but is partially made of a soft material not unlike rubber or gel. The main mission of this new design is probably to further improve the haptics of the controller, and it is also worth noting that the material is fully deformable.

Sony

Haptics on a whole new level...Dle available information from the server AndroidAuthority it should be a silicone-based macromolecular gel, and this gel should also be able to receive electrical signals through an attached circuit. This would really mean a much more pronounced, better and more accurate haptic response, but that is far from everything.

This gel could also be used to demonstrate temperature changes in games. This means that, for example, at the beginning of Red Dead Redeption 2, which takes place in the snowy mountains, you would have a really bad hand with this controller. You could thus perfectly relate to the frozen characters who roam the mountains on foot and on horseback in the northern region of the game world.

Not everything makes it into production...The idea is certainly interesting, but the fact that there is a patent for it does not mean that we will see it. Sony has filed a lot of patents in the past, which are still rolling somewhere in the drawer of Japanese engineers and have never been transformed into a real product. We’ll see how this gel controller turns out and if we ever get it.
