Legion's gaming smartphone division wll shut down
Last week, rumors surfaced online that Lenovo was shutting down its Legion gaming smartphone division. The complaint was made by one of the employees of the Chinese company, who claimed that part of the unit's staff had already been fired. In response to a request from the Android Authority for comment on the rumors, the company confirmed the decision to stop producing gaming smartphones under the Legion brand.
“Lenovo is phasing out Android-based Legion mobile gaming phones as part of a broader business transformation and consolidation of its gaming portfolio. As a leader in gaming devices and solutions, Lenovo is committed to advancing the gaming category across multiple form factors, as well as focusing on where it can deliver the most value to the global gaming community.” a Lenovo representative told the Android Authority resource.
According to Engadget journalists, the problems of Lenovo's gaming smartphone division are due to the fact that the Chinese company has not achieved the popularity of Legion smartphones outside China.
In turn, the Android Authority resource noted that now the prospects for the gaming smartphone market do not look the best. And yet, a number of brands are still involved in the release of game models. Among them are ASUS with the ROG family of gaming smartphones, which plans to introduce the ROG Phone 7 on April 13, as well as ZTE Nubia with the RedMagic brand and Xiaomi with the Black Shark brand. It should be noted that Xiaomi, due to problems with the implementation of Black Shark smartphones, was forced to cut most of the staff involved in its launch.
