Chinese TikTok is a security threat to Czech users, warns NÚKIB

TikTok is undoubtedly one of the most popular social networks on the planet. However, the app's name is resonating in the internet world for another reason. Yes, it has been quite controversial from the start; some love her, while others don't leave a dry thread on her, but this time the cause lies elsewhere.

TikTok is a risk...We recently informed you, that a ban has been issued in the United States to install the application on the company phones of government officials. In short, TikTok is banned at this level. american office

The Chamber Administration Commission (COA) has just announced dryly to its employees that it is forbidden to install this social network on company phones for security reasons.

American schools soon took the same step and decided to put the application on the so-called blacklist of public Wi-Fi networks, which students actively use. Needless to say, the acute reaction didn't take long. Students began to riot en masse because they see this as a fundamental limitation on access to information.

A blanket ban is also on the line...The whole, already tense situation recently escalated completely because ByteDance, TikTok's parent company, admitted under duress that it was spying on some journalists. And according to the latest reports, the Biden administration has a proposal on the table to ban the app across the entire United States.

Represents a security threat...As far-fetched as these things may be, say, the latest news puts this sentiment on a completely opposite plane. The National Office for Cyber and Information Security (NÚKIB) has issued an alert about the TikTok app.

This social network, which enjoys enormous popularity mainly among young users, can pose a security risk, especially if the application is located on a phone or other device that has access to the systems of the so-called critical information infrastructure.

Data collection is dangerous..."I issued the warning based on a comprehensive review of information about the TikTok app that we obtained from public sources and our allies. The amount of data collected and its handling, combined with the legal environment in China and the growing number of users in the Czech Republic leave us with no choice but to brand TikTok as a security threat.” says NÚKIB director Lukáš Kintr.

The fear of potential security threats mainly stems from the amount of data collected about users and the way in which it is collected, how it is handled and, last but not least, also from the legal and political environment of the People's Republic of China, the whose legal environment ByteDance is subject.
