Apple Music Classical: The app made specifically for listening to classical music
Apple has finally announced Apple Music Classical, an app made specifically for listening to classical music. The service evolved from the Dutch streaming service Primephonic, which was acquired in 2021.
Founder Thomas Steffens was a director of The Boston Consulting Group (BCG). From where he advised several cultural institutions and got to know the world of music. ‘The music industry has been saved by services like Spotify, half of pop record companies’ revenue comes from streaming. Unfortunately, that doesn't apply to labels specializing in classical music,' Steffens told Emerce a few years ago. ‘Worldwide, classical music accounts for five per cent of all music consumption. With streaming services, that's just one percent.'
It's impressive that Steffens chose Apple. From the royal point of view, the Dutchman had some objections to Apple Music and Spotify. For example, they do not take into account the length of the parts, a short stream is paid the same as a long stream. “We are going to correct this imbalance.”
Apple Music Classical is the best way to experience classical music, says Apple, with hundreds of curated playlists, thousands of exclusive albums, insightful composer biographies, in-depth guides to key works, intuitive navigation features and much more.
Apple works closely with some of the world's best-known classical musicians and leading classical music institutions to bring new and unique content and recordings to Apple Music Classical listeners.
Apple Music Classical also allows listeners to see new and exclusive works of art, including a series of unique, high-resolution digital portraits of many world-renowned composers.
