MICROSOFT

Company removes the Microsoft Authenticator app from the Apple Watch store

Microsoft announced today that it has removed the Authenticator app from the Apple Watch store. The application to generate access codes is therefore no longer available on the wrist of Apple users.

In the release notes for the latest version of Microsoft Authenticator, you can read that “Quest’update rimuove Microsoft Authenticator da Apple Watch”. Although the app is no longer available on Apple's smartwatch, it is still possible to receive the notifications that the app sends to the iPhone on the wrist, through the function to duplicate iPhone notifications available in watchOS, Apple's watch operating system.

Initially used to access Microsoft accounts with two-step verification enabled, the app in question has managed to attract a good portion of users on iOS and has also followed users with an Apple Watch in recent years. Microsoft's app has often been preferred over Google Authenticator for generating one-time passcodes, and only recently has Apple's version arrived, built into iOS in the password section within device settings.

Unfortunately, the Apple Watch doesn't seem to offer the same appeal to developers as the iPhone, and today it's more a case of a recently retired smartwatch app.
