HPE acquires Italy's Athonet to enhance private 5G offering
Athonet has been in business for over 15 years and has implemented over 450 4G and 5G connectivity solutions for partners and customers around the world. The Vicenza-based company's technology will be integrated into HPE's connectivity offering for Communications Service Providers (or CSPs, Communications Service Providers) and that of HPE Aruba.
The intent is to create a converged portfolio combining private 5G and WiFi 6 networks and use automation to improve time to market and innovation. Athonet Private 5G is expected to integrate with Aruba Central so administrators can manage these two networks and WiFi 6 from a single dashboard.
Athonet's offering will also be available via HPE GreenLake, the multinational's consumption-based model for acquiring hardware and services in its offering.
“Athonet was born to offer proprietary 4G and 5G solutions capable of ensuring carrier-grade reliability and performance to satisfy customers' ever-increasing connectivity needs,” said Gianluca Verin CEO and co-founder of Athonet. “We are excited to join HPE, unite our highly skilled teams and jointly expand our service offering into the fast-growing private 5G market, leveraging HPE's strategic approach to distinguish ourselves as a leading provider of edge-to-cloud solutions. ”
“Telecom operators are looking for simpler ways to deploy private 5G networks to meet their customers' growing needs for the connected edge,” said Tom Craig, Global Vice President and General Manager, Communications Technology Group at HPE. “At the same time, enterprise customers are asking us for a personalized 5G experience with low latency, encrypted features, coverage and security in campus and industrial environments, complementing their existing wireless networks. With the acquisition of Athonet, HPE has one of the most comprehensive 5G and Private Wi-Fi portfolios in the market, targeting Communications Service Providers (CSP) and enterprise customers, which will be offered as a service through HPE GreenLake. “
