As of February 1, authors of short films on the YouTube platform will be able to participate in the partner program, monetizing the content they create.
The change will be part of a larger overhaul of YouTube's partner program, in which all members will have to agree to the new rules, regardless of whether they plan to monetize their Shorts.
One of the requirements to participate in the YouTube Partner Program was that the user's videos had at least 4,000 hours of views in the last 12 months. Since October 2022, Shorts have also been included in the total viewing time. Now that requirement becomes irrelevant. To participate in the affiliate program, users will need to accumulate 4,000 hours of views on standard videos or 10 million views on Shorts videos within 90 days. In addition, it is necessary to have at least 1 thousand subscribers.
Authors of short videos for some time can earn money using various methods, including integration with purchases and the YouTube incentive fund created for popular bloggers. Now Shorts creators will have access to a monetization method that has been used for years by standard video creators on the platform. Overall, the platform's partner program will become modular, so content authors will have more monetization opportunities. YouTube recommends that partners agree to all changes as this will make it easier for authors to unlock their potential and increase earnings.
