VKontakte will create a service to recognize fakes in photos and videos

According to online sources, the social network VKontakte plans to launch a service within six months that will allow it to recognize fakes in photos and videos. Users will be able to upload images and videos to verify their authenticity. About this writes TASS news agency with reference to the press service of the social network.

VKontakte is working on deepfake recognition technology. It will be possible to check the photos or videos uploaded on the platform for manipulations related to the face, for example, changes of editors or replacement of one person by another.— reported in the social network's press service.

Earlier it was reported that video fake recognition services may appear in Russia. This is indicated by data from the product technology map of the roadmap for the development of the high-tech area “New General System Software”, which was adopted by the Government of the Russian Federation at the end of last year. At the same time, the developers and project schedule were not announced in the roadmap.

The source notes that the presence in the roadmap of a project to develop a counterfeit recognition service was confirmed in the office of Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko. The service is expected to reach at least 70% accuracy in recognizing fake content by 2025.
