INNOSILICON

Innosilicon mostrou placa de vídeo com GPU chinesa Fantasy 2 e refrigeração passiva

Innosilicon Fantasy 2: Chinese technology graphics accelerator with passive cooling

During the annual China Chip Excellence Awards Ceremony, Chinese company Innosilicon showed a video card of its own development based on the Fantasy 2 graphics processor introduced last summer.

The throttle is equipped with a passive cooling system.

The manufacturer has not announced when the specified graphics card will go on sale. However, as explained by the Tom's Hardware portal, this should have happened in August last year. Formally, the video card does not even have a name. It received an award for an innovative Chinese product at the event and is marked in accompanying documents as a high-performance graphics accelerator based on the Fenghua 2 graphics processor with support for three 4K-level displays.

The Fantasy 2 graphics processor used at the base of the board uses PowerVR architecture and has a low power consumption of 5-15 W. According to Innosilicon, the Fantasy 2 chip offers performance in FP32 operations at the level of 1.5 Tflops and 10 TOPS of computing power in Int8 tasks. In other words, this decision can hardly be called the limit of players' dreams.

For the Chinese GPU, the possibility of working with LPDDR5X/5/4x/4 memory of 2, 4 and 8 GB, with a speed of up to 10 Gbit/s per pin and total bandwidth of up to 102 Gbyte/s is declared. The chip supports the PCIe 3.0 x8 interface, and solutions based on it can offer up to two HDMI 2.0 connectors, one DisplayPort and eDP1.4, one VGA and one LVDS. In addition, the chip supports OpenGL, Vulkan and DirectX APIs, as well as Windows, Linux and Android operating systems.

According to Innosilicon, Fantasy 2's GPU-based graphics card is capable of handling "everyday tasks". It can be used to work with office applications, CAD and for entertainment. The company claims that the video card performs "good" in games. However, we are probably talking about 2D games.

The Fantasy 2 GPU-based accelerator definitely cannot handle 3D game projects. For these purposes, in theory, video cards based on the Fantasy 1 graphics processor would be best suited, but they have not yet appeared on sale. It was assumed that the Fantasy 1 graphics card series would consist of Type A models based on a BXT-32-1024 GPU (again on PowerVR architecture) with 5 Tflops performance in FP32 operations and based on two BXT-32-1024 with performance of 10 Tflops on the same tasks.

Cards were supposed to have up to 16 GB of GDDR6X memory with support for a 128-bit memory bus. In theory, video cards should provide performance at the level of GeForce RTX 2080 or GeForce RTX 3060. Chinese video cards were presented in the fall of 2021, but even Chinese profilers still could not catch up with them.
