Yandex hacked!

According to the latest information, Yandex, which is very popular in our country, faced a major data breach. Hackers shared on a forum that a 44.71 GB source code repository directory was leaked, along with examples. Following the spread of the news, Yandex confirmed the leak.

This big leak covers the source codes of Yandex services. In particular, the 1,922 search ranking factors included in the leak drew attention.

The hacker claims to have obtained the data in July 2022. Researcher Arseniy Shestakov, who examined the leaked source codes, states that the archive consists of a repository directory and does not contain any additional data. He also mentioned that all the files in the archive belong to February 24, 2022, that is, the day the Russian troops entered Ukraine.

According to Shestakov, the leak contains the source code of all major Yandex services, including Yandex search engine, Yandex Maps, Yandex AI assistant Alice, Yandex Taxi, Yandex Mail, Yandex Pay and many other services.

It was stated that this major leak did not contain any personal data belonging to users or employees.

Yandex stressed that they were not "hacked" because the leaked archive only contained sections of code in a different internal repository directory than the current version.

The leak revealed not only the source codes of the services, but also the 1,922 ranking factors Yandex used in its search algorithm.
