CES 2023
Roland's unusually designed piano made of wood
Roland celebrated its 50th anniversary with a new product that looks very unusual. The presentation was held as part of the CES 2023 exhibition.
Roland has been making musical instruments that have been considered the best in their class for 50 years. At the current CES 2023, she decided to surprise visitors and brought an electronic piano... in a huge box of wireless headphones.
The body of the musical instrument is entirely made of wood, except for the lid, which is attached separately. The design was made in collaboration with the Japanese furniture factory Karimoku. It's the lid that gives this piano its unusual appearance: when it's open, the instrument looks like a giant box of wireless headphones. However, there are differences – for example, there is nothing in the center of the body, there is a large hole for the legs, and the pedals are located at the bottom.
As for the lid, it not only protects the piano from dust: there is a display inside, which serves both as a control panel and as a source of information for the conductor.
Another interesting detail of this instrument is the sound. There are 14 omnidirectional speakers built into the cabinet itself, but that's not all: the piano comes with two large flying speakers. It literally is: speakers are built into the drones, whose movement is synchronized with the entire sound system. When low sounds are played, the drones automatically approach the listener; in addition, they can correct the soundstage.
Roland's new piano will be released to the public, but details are still being kept under wraps.
