TSMC's desire to increase investment in the United States has caused some concern in Taiwan, according to Reuters, so local officials were quick to reassure their compatriots. The island will continue to be TSMC's main manufacturing base and will also be home to cutting-edge lithography research. The company's specialists are already working on the development of 2 nm and 1 nm technologies.

Wang Mei-Hua, Taiwan's Minister of Economy, had to make corresponding statements this week, as some social forces on the island saw TSMC's increased activity outside Taiwan as a threat to the national economy. It is worth remembering that the company will build projects in the United States and Japan in the coming years, and is also discussing the possibility of building a project in Europe.

Speaking before parliament, Taiwan's Economy Minister Wang Mei-Hua stressed that the island will maintain its status as the largest and most technologically advanced semiconductor manufacturer.

Taiwan remains the hub of TSMC's research and development activities, where all elements of the supply chain are located. There is a complete component supply ecosystem and there is support from the authorities. This is definitely TSMC's most important production base,” explained the Taiwanese minister.

She also added that not only are 3nm components already produced in Taiwan, but also work is underway to develop 2nm and 1nm process technologies.

One of the members of the Board of Directors of TSMC, who also attended the ceremony in Arizona, urged compatriots not to confuse the company's expansion of cooperation with the migration of the semiconductor industry out of the island. Most of TSMC's production will continue to be tied to Taiwan. Local authorities intend to grant additional subsidies to companies that develop local production and carry out profile surveys on the island.
