OPPO has posted on its YouTube channel a teaser video dedicated to a new development - the QRIC robops (Quadrupedal Robotic with Intelligent Controller, a four-legged robot with an intelligent controller). This companion robot will likely compete with the Boston Dynamics Spot and Xiaomi CyberDog models.
The video is about a boy who plays with QRIC and builds a toy space rocket. Robodog is able to walk, jump, do somersaults, carry objects, recognize people through sensors placed in front of the body or act as a webcam for video calls. The QRIC can be controlled using voice commands or an app on a smartphone.
The presentation of the QRIC companion robot will take place on December 14 at the OPPO Inno Day 2022 conference, where the company will tell all the details about the new product.
Recall that the Xiaomi CyberDog robot dog was released in a limited edition of 1,000 pieces priced at $1,500.
The similarity to the Dynamics Spot may be doing the QRIC a disservice, as Boston Dynamics has filed a lawsuit against Ghost Robotics for infringing on seven patents that were used on its four-legged Spot robot. In particular, according to Boston Dynamics, the Ghost Robotics Spirit 40 and Vision 60 models use their patented balancing and stair climbing systems.
