LG anuncia câmera para smartphone com zoom óptico de 9x e estabilização

Subsidiary of LG Corporation introduced a 9x optical zoom and stabilization module

LG Innotek (a subsidiary of LG Corperation) has introduced a new camera module with optical stabilization and optical zoom, designed for the next generation of flagship mobile devices.

According to a statement from LG Innotek, the camera module will be unveiled at CES, which will be held from January 3, 2023.

However, from the press release it is already known that the camera module will offer from x4 to x9 continuous zoom range with optical image stabilization. According to the manufacturer, the scale unit is designed to provide high speed of movement and durability with lower battery consumption compared to the competition and can move in one micrometer increments.

LG Innotek says it has worked closely with Qualcomm Technologies to optimize the continuous optical zoom software that will be used in the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 premium mobile platform. In particular, LG Innotek says autofocus, autoexposure, auto white, correction shadows and more will be optimized on devices with Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon chipset announced last month.

The LG company itself has not produced smartphones since the beginning of 2021, but continues to produce various high-tech components for smartphones, tablets, computers and other equipment that other manufacturers use in their products.

LG Innotek claims that the new camera module is specially designed to reduce the camera protrusion on the back of smartphones. Thanks to the use of a bent optics design, these smartphones can achieve a longer focal length than would be possible without a huge camera module protruding from the camera.

In August 2021, smartphone manufacturer Oppo demonstrated a similar camera module with an optical zoom of 85-200mm equivalent to OIS, but at the moment devices based on this camera have not been released. Assuming the new LG Innotek camera module is unveiled in a smartphone at CES 2023, as the press release suggests, it looks like LG will overtake Oppo in this market.
