DYSON
Dyzon Zone – a different headset with air purification filter
They reduce noise, purify the air – and they look futuristic, to say the least. Dyson's first headphones are causing many to raise their eyebrows. The question is who can buy them.
British Dyson is known for making vacuum cleaners and other household products. Now, the company aims to break new ground by combining its expertise in home appliances with another somewhat unexpected area of technology – sound.
Headphones with air-purifying filter...Dyson has managed to draw a lot of attention to the Zone, which is the company's first wearable in the form of a pair of headphones.
Released last spring, the Dyson Zone is a pair of wireless headphones that offer noise reduction (ANC) and air purification.
The headphones are equipped with compressors that draw in ambient air. The air is then purified in two stages with different filters, and is forced out through a kind of visor attached to the headphones.
According to Dyson, the headphones can filter out compounds from the air such as nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide and ozone at ground level. 99% of air particles must be able to be cleaned, down to a thickness of 0.1 μm (micrometer).
38 dB noise reduction...Considering the headphone compressors, noise reduction is a necessity. The Dyson Zone must be able to reduce the perceived sound level by up to 38 decibels with the help of eight microphones that capture and analyze ambient noise.
The headphones also use a 40mm sound driver and are equipped with two additional microphones for transparency and telephony systems.
The price then? The fact that the Dyson Zone costs a lot is not a huge surprise. But the $949 price tag, which is roughly SEK 9,900, is likely to surprise most people. That means the Dyson Zone costs more than twice the price of the acclaimed Sony WH-1000xm5 – and costs several thousand more than the Airpods Max (as per Swedish krona quotes).
