Due to heavy sanctions Russia faces decrease in internet speed

In Russia, there is a shortage of frequencies for LTE, which leads to an increase in network bandwidth and a decrease in Internet speed, write local newspapers.

The problem of frequencies has long been outlined, for example, in the Moscow region – one of the most problematic regions due to the higher network load. Prior to that, operators solved the problem by installing additional base stations. But after deliveries of new equipment to Russia ended, it became much more difficult to do.

To solve the problem of missing frequencies, operators resort to refarming – the transfer of frequencies from one standard to another.

For example, VimpelCom gave frequencies in the Moscow region in the 2.1 GHz band for LTE, although they were previously used for 3G. This made it possible to increase the average speed of the mobile Internet by 1.5 times.

5G could alleviate LTE networks, but so far no frequency has been allocated to the new standard and there is no home equipment for its operation.
