Company to launch massive ad campaign on Twitter
SpaceX, the aerospace company founded by Elon Musk, has acquired one of Twitter's biggest advertising packages. Thus, the billionaire supported his social network, which advertisers recently left. The advertising campaign will promote Starlink satellite internet in Spain and Australia.
According to sources among current and former employees of the social network, the special package acquired by SpaceX involves spending over BRL 250,000(Brazil currency) – ads will be displayed on top of the main feed throughout the day. It is now critical for Musk to sell more ads on Twitter, which has an estimated 237.8 million “monetizable” daily users.
However, even a major Starlink campaign won't replace the countless customers who froze their ad spend on Twitter or even left the platform altogether after Musk bought the social network. For example, General Motors, Audi, Volkswagen, General Mills, Pfizer and United Airlines have suspended spending in part due to an increase in inappropriate postings on the platform. The well-known advertising agency Interpublic Group recommended that clients do the same. At the same time, advertising revenue represents 90% of all Twitter revenue.
The situation was compounded by the emergence of the opportunity to buy a blue verification stamp for a token $8. Accounts with these icons were used by pranksters and scammers to trick users. For example, pharmaceutical giant Eli Lilly's clone account created major problems for the drugmaker by publishing a post about distributing free insulin. The post went viral and the company's stock dropped sharply after the fake was published. Other large companies also suffered.
Musk tweeted over the weekend that Twitter was the web's biggest source of clicks to other sites and apps, but was quickly corrected by former employees and industry experts, saying the social network generates far less outbound traffic than the former. Facebook, LinkedIn, etc., after which Musk had to correct the tweet and delete it completely.
In a meeting with company officials last week, Musk said the social network's bankruptcy is not ruled out, both in relation to the exodus of advertisers from the platform and in the context of the general economic crisis.
