NVIDIA
Nvidia officially announced today that the third graphics card in the GeForce RTX 40 line - the GeForce RTX 4080 with 12GB of memory - will not be available. She's cancelled.
The official statement says that the GeForce RTX 4080 is "a fantastic graphics card, but the wrong name", and having two GeForce RTX 4080s in the series is confusing. Thus, the company “presses the cancel button”. At the same time, Nvidia confirms that the GeForce RTX 4080 with 16GB of memory will be released as planned on November 16th. And the company expects the same warm reception from the older GeForce RTX 4090.
Apparently, the GeForce RTX 4080 with 12GB of memory will still be released, but under a different name: for example, as the GeForce RTX 4070 or RTX 4070 Ti. Which is logical: rumors initially assigned this designation to this model, but Nvidia's marketers decided otherwise. And now the company has come up with nothing better than simply canceling the graphics card.
Meanwhile, the GeForce RTX 4080 with 16GB of memory prepares to hit store shelves, the GeForce RTX 4090 is turning into an increasingly scarce commodity: in the US it is resold for 2-6 times the recommended price (and people are buying it!), and in China, huge queue for Founders Edition.
