Huawei has unexpectedly introduced EMUI 13 firmware. It is designed for company phones sold outside of China - Chinese devices run HarmonyOS.
It is no accident that EMUI 13 was released after the announcement of HarmonyOS 3.0: many interface elements for the new global firmware version are borrowed from Chinese. But it was not without new features.
Drag to Share lets you select text with a long press, select an image or file, and upload it all to SuperHub - your own clipboard image, from which you can send a file, image or text anywhere and from anywhere manner. Through SuperHub, you can also delete files or search for data in uploads.
The SuperStorage feature is designed to free up space in flash memory. So, it can free up to 20GB by compressing unused app data, finding and deleting duplicate files, deleting unclaimed files from downloads, etc.
The audio projection feature allows you to stream the audio stream from one phone to two connected audio devices (eg two pairs of headphones). The example refers to the FreeBuds Pro 2, and it's not yet clear whether this feature works with other headphones.
Security has been improved in EMIUI 13. For example, users can see how often installed apps use user data. The system can also scan applications for potential malware or alert on suspicious behavior of individual applications.
Huawei has yet to reveal which phones will get EMUI 13 and when, but generally flagships are included in the first wave of updates.
