FOLIO PHOTONICS
Company CEO promises storage unit with 100TB storage capacity
A few weeks ago, Folio Photonics CEO Steven Santamaria told Forbes that his company has mastered the technology of writing 8-layer data onto an optical disc. Now he has announced a 16-tier technology, with which the developers hope to reach a storage capacity of 100 terabytes. That's about three times more than the best versions of Blu-ray discs designed for long-term data storage.
As Santamaria told reporters, he managed to assemble a team of talented engineers who pushed "historical limits" in the development of optical storage media. They were able to deliver “unprecedented cost, cybersecurity and resiliency benefits” in new devices. These units are immune to radiation, high temperatures, salt water, mechanical damage and electromagnetic interference.
Importantly, the new storage media will be compact - they will not exceed the size of Nintendo console cartridges. Santamaria intends to challenge existing cloud storage and streaming to bring personal physical media back to market. There is still no information on the release date and cost of these discs.
«Our talented engineering team, under the leadership of founder and CIO Dr. Kenneth Singer, pioneered a new approach to optical storage that overcomes historical constraints and puts unprecedented benefits of cost, cybersecurity and sustainability at your fingertips. With these advantages, Folio Photonics is poised to reshape the trajectory of archive storage.»...said Santamaria
