Apple today started rolling out the iOS 16.1 update, which will be available for compatible iPhone users soon. It will bring with it Live Activity, a shared photo gallery on iCloud, support for the Matter standard for smart home devices, and other innovations.
In iOS 16.1, the developers implemented support for the Live Activity function, which will allow you to follow various online events on your smartphone's lock screen. This can be useful in a number of ways, such as tracking a sporting event or tracking the delivery of an order from a restaurant. This feature will work differently on different iPhone models, but it works best on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, which support Always-On Display. Note that Live Activity will become more widespread as third-party developers integrate the feature into their products.
Back in iOS 16.1, it became possible to organize a shared photo library on iCloud. This function makes it easy to share photos, for example, between family members or friends. Up to six people will be able to access the shared library and each of them will be able to upload photos from their device to it.
After installing iOS 16.1, iPhone users will be able to uninstall the Wallet app for the first time. The update will also bring support for the Matter standard, which will allow compatible smart home devices to work together. Additionally, iOS 16.1 introduces Green Power Charging, which aims to reduce the iPhone's carbon footprint by simplifying the process of recharging power when connected to a green electrical grid.
Among the less visible innovations, we note that the Fitness+ service will now work without an Apple Watch, the exact percentage will appear on the battery level icon, and Apple Card users will be able to open a savings account. Also, in iOS 16.1, the developers implemented several fixes aimed at improving the stability of the operating system.
