Detalhes do SoC Tensor G2 revelados

Features of the unprecedented Google Tensor G2 chip are revealed, and there is not much news

It looks like the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro smartphones will be even further behind competing flagships than the current generation Pixel.

That's about the platform. According to recent data, the Tensor G2 SoC will receive almost the same processor as the current platform. More precisely, both the 2+2+4 configuration and the core set will be preserved. That is, the platform will receive two Cortex-X1, two Cortex-A76 and four Cortex-A55 cores. It is true that the frequencies will be slightly increased, but we are talking about 100 MHz for Cortex-A76 cores and 50 MHz for Cortex-X1 cores. As a result, on Geekbench, the new multithreaded platform is only 10% faster than the current one. At the same time, the new manufacturing process (4nm) should make Tensor G2 more energy efficient.

With that, at least on the processor side, the Tensor G2 will be far behind the new Qualcomm and MediaTek platforms, and even the current ones, as competitors already use the Cortex-X2, Cortex-A710 and Cortex-A510 cores.

But the GPU will still be different. Instead of the Mali-G78 MP20, the more modern Mali-G710 will be used, but the number of cores is not yet known. The source also talks about the new TPU and other secondary blocks.

It is still difficult to say how many points on the same AnTuTu the new platform will earn, but at least because of the CPU, the difference with the new Qualcomm and MediaTek SoCs will be huge. Keep in mind that the current Tensor is earning around 730,000 points on AnTuTu, while the Exynos 2200 shows around 840,000, and the top Snapdragon and Dimensity are approaching and sometimes surpassing 1 million points. So the new Qualcomm and MediaTek SoCs will be even faster, but the Tensor G2 won't add as much.

However, how critical this is for average users is an open question, as the same Pixel 6 runs very quickly.

As for the reliability of the data, it was shared by insider Kuba Wojciechowski as he took it from the Geekbench database, where the Pixel 7 Pro result recently appeared. Also, previously this author was the first to indicate that Xiaomi would switch to using JLQ platforms, and the Poco C40 was recently introduced in such a SoC. Furthermore, there has already been evidence that the Tensor G2 will be very similar to Google's previous platform.
