LG

The brand's unprecedented gadget with flexible screen appears for the first time in video

More than a year has passed since the South Korean company LG exited the smartphone market and at the same time abandoned plans to launch a device with a flexible display, which was being developed at the time. Now, a video has surfaced online showing the unreleased smartphone's design and features in detail. Judging by the content of this video, the LG Rollable smartphone with retractable screen was almost ready for launch.

Initially, LG talked about the intention to launch a smartphone with a flexible display before the end of 2021. It can be assumed that this statement is based on the company's ambitions and there was no ready-made solution for the implementation of this plan. However, the smartphone shown in the new video suggests otherwise. The main feature of the device is that its screen does not fold, like many similar solutions, but folds and unfolds.

Ready-made prototypes of the foldable smartphone may have ended up in the hands of LG employees, which explains why a new video has appeared online. The device is equipped with an OLED display, which when folded has a diagonal of 6.8 inches, while in the open position its diagonal increases to 7.4 inches. On the back of the case is another screen, which, apparently, is designed to show notifications and other information. When unfolded, wrinkles are visible on the right side of the screen. It's also unclear how durable the display is and how many cycles of unfolding and unfolding it can withstand.

The video revealed that the round module on the back is a fingerprint scanner and not a camera sensor as previously suggested. Another interesting feature of the LG Rollable is that the SIM card slot is only accessible when unfolded, as when the screen is rolled up, the slot is locked. According to available data, the smartphone is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor (the main chip at the time of the device's potential launch), 12GB of RAM, 256GB of storage and a 4500mAh battery.
