Internet Explorer is built into Windows 11, and you can run it
It seemed that Microsoft had already completely gotten rid of the Internet Explorer browser relic: the developer announced the end of its support. On Windows 11, it cannot start even though it tries to open the corresponding EXE file – Edge starts. However, the opportunity to run the old browser on the new platform still exists, it was found by Twitter users.
As planned by the developer, Internet Explorer was not supposed to work on Windows 11 – in over 20 years, this is the first version of the proprietary OS without the IE browser, sent into retirement on June 15, 2022. However, it remained in the wild. platform as a component of the system, and its release in its original form was made possible thanks to old and forgotten by users and, apparently, by the developer, fragments of the interface that still exist in 2022.
To start the browser, you need to find the “Internet Options” item in the “Start” menu, launch the corresponding “Control Panel” application, select the “Add-on Management” item in the “Programs” tab and click on the Link button “ Learn more about toolbars and extensions”. For some reason, this sequence of steps launches Internet Explorer without forcing a redirect to Edge. The browser works with all its “charms”, demonstrating a categorical rejection of modern web technologies and vulnerability to numerous threats – the latter is especially relevant in light of the end of support, so you better be careful.
