Starlink notifies French users that the subscription fee for communication services will be reduced, but traffic consumption will be restricted

SpaceX, owner of satellite provider Starlink, has notified French users of two innovations: the subscription fee for communication services will be halved, but there will be a restriction on traffic consumption – when the 250 GB limit is reached, the Network access speed may be limited.

The day before, SpaceX sent notifications to users in France about the changes that will be introduced as part of the pilot program: from August 3, the monthly service fee for the mainland of the country is reduced from €99 to €50 per month – A screenshot of the message was posted on the corresponding Reddit forum. In parallel, since October, the company has been introducing a “Fair Usage Policy”, according to which, when the volume of traffic consumed reaches 250 GB per month, the access speed can be reduced. You can restore priority access via Starlink by purchasing additional traffic at the price of €10 per 100 GB.

SpaceX clarified that with these changes, the objective is to connect as many customers as possible, while maintaining the high quality of services provided. Since the launch of the satellite provider, Starlink's subscribers have never been limited in terms of traffic volumes. However, speeds for several North American customers have dropped dramatically in recent months, likely due to network congestion. The company is aware of this issue and intends to resolve it by launching several thousand more satellites into orbit, but this will take time and regulatory approval. Therefore, the current restrictive measures can only be temporary.
