NOKIA

Oppo and OnePlus barr in Germany due to a lawsuit over a patent owned by Nokia

After a court ruling from the Munich regional court, Oppo and OnePlus must immediately stop selling smartphones in Germany. The court ruled in Nokia's favor in a patent lawsuit on Friday. Also in the Netherlands, Nokia threatens to ban the sale of Oppo and OnePlus devices. Vivo, which, like Oppo and OnePlus, is under parent company BBK Electronic, could also be under a sales ban.

Oppo and OnePlus can no longer sell or advertise their smartphones. Devices are no longer listed on Oppo Germany. website and no longer on the German OnePlus online store.

How the future in Germany will be for both brands is still uncertain. In Germany, sales and marketing will be halted initially, but Oppo does not want to withdraw from the German market, says a German company in the sector. Smartphones from both manufacturers are still widely available in stores. As long as retailers still have Oppo and OnePlus smartphones in stock, they will still be able to sell them. However, retailers may withdraw the devices from sale as a precaution, so as not to get in the line of fire between Nokia and BBK.

Oppo issues a statement on the matter...''OnePlus diligently complies with laws and regulations in all markets in which it operates. As a leading technology brand, we recognize the importance of intellectual property to drive innovation and value fair access to essential patents. Nokia's demand for an excessively high fee is detrimental to this effect. We are actively working with relevant parties to resolve the ongoing legal issue. While sales and marketing of the relevant products are suspended, OnePlus remains committed to the German market and will continue our operations. In the meantime, OnePlus users in Germany can continue to enjoy our products and related services, such as regular software updates and our after-sales service, as before. “As the owner of many 5G patents, OPPO attaches great importance to the role of intellectual property in innovation. We have a history of cross-licensing with many leading companies and are committed to promoting a healthy intellectual property ecosystem. Our long-term commitment to the German market remains unchanged and we are proactively working with stakeholders to resolve the ongoing case. In addition to the discontinuation of sales and marketing of relevant products through OPPO's own channels, OPPO will continue to operate in Germany. This only applies to the German market. In the meantime, users can continue using OPPO products, access after-sales services, receive future OS updates and much more.”

Both manufacturers hope to find a solution together with Nokia. In the meantime, Oppo will continue to provide updates and support in Germany so that the manufacturer's smartphones can continue to be used without disruption.
