EPSON

Brand printers have printing failure

It seems that expensive ink and paper jams aren't the only problems Epson printer owners may face. According to network sources, some manufacturers' devices are programmed to stop working at a certain stage of use and display a message informing them that their useful life has expired.

A user recently tweeted that his “very expensive Epson printer” suddenly showed an expiration date and stopped working. At the same time, the device did not say what exactly caused the interruption of work, but simply recommended to contact the service. It turned out that the problem was with the gaskets, which are designed to collect and retain excess ink in inkjet printers. Over time, they wear out and there is a risk of damaging the paper or even the printer itself due to ink spillage. However, the interruption of work with the actual wear of the joints is not connected, but simply occurs after a certain fixed number of printed sheets.

Typically, other parts of the printer wear out faster than the gaskets, or users buy a newer model after a few years of use. But if the printer is actively used to print for a certain time, at some point, a message about end of life may appear. The issue is affecting Epson L130, L220, L310, L360, and L365 printers, but it may affect some other models. It is worth noting that the first reports of a problem with ink pads appeared about five years ago, and since then, many videos have appeared on the Internet, the authors of which show how to replace a worn out element on their own and reset the blockage of other works.

The phrase “planned obsolescence” is often used in connection with consumer electronics, when a product is designed and manufactured with a limited lifespan, after which it must be replaced or repaired by qualified personnel. However, in the case of Epson printers, the manufacturer does not inform users about the need for maintenance, and the message about the end of the operating period itself does not make it clear what exactly is the cause of the problem.
