NOTHING

Nothing Phone (1) still doesn't excite

Last week's research shows that Newton's third law also applies to hype – for every hype there is equal and opposite hate. And few phone releases this year have been as excited as the Nothing phone (1).

That's not to say things are looking bad, necessarily. 1 in 10 people in the poll have already ordered a unit, which means they have gone through all the hoops of the invite system.

1 in 3 people are waiting for reviews to make a decision. That's reasonable considering this is the company's first smartphone and only its second product. He needs to prove himself, which is something we'll get back to in a minute.

Those who like the phone (1) touted its design as a plus - it certainly takes a look at a time when many new releases seem downright generic. It also has a pretty premium build with an aluminum frame sandwiched between two GG5 panels. And it doesn't skip wireless charging. The software support schedule (3 years of OS updates, 4 years of patches) is also a boon. All this makes it stand out in the midsize segment.

Then there's the Glyph interface. Some doubt how useful it really is, but people are talking about it – it's an attention-grabber, which (we suspect) was the point. There's also the Nothing launcher, which some have tested on their current phones, but that's not all that interesting.

Resultados semanais da enquete: nada do telefone (1) provoca um debate acalorado, mas a empresa precisa se provar

That said, the majority of voters in the poll have no interest in the Nothing phone (1). Many commentators have listed the phones they would rather have - Samsungs, Pocos, Xiaomis even Asus. That's probably fine for Nothing right now, who need to focus on keeping up with demand.

But the company needs to prove itself – many expressed a sentiment like “not this one, but maybe the phone (2)”. It doesn't help that there is no variety. Okay, some brands release a lot of phones, but Nada has the opposite problem - if the phone (1) is too big or too small or anything else for you, you're looking for another brand.

Love it or hate it, the Nothing phone (1) was a hit when it was released. We've received our unit and are working on a review, so stay tuned for our verdict over the phone.
